As a third-generation Chinese-Canadian, one is faced with a different kind of otherness than the experience first-generation immigrants encounter. Between assimilating to a North-American paradigm that only makes space on the condition of homogeneity and being born into Eastern traditions that demand a different kind of submission, one is in constant negotiation, trying to please, but never belonging to either.
I am interested in resting in pendulum between these places of belonging, using a language of "cute"ness to transform the public into the personal. My work attempts to create pockets of "magic" in the mundane and is constantly rewriting a wistful story of longing, sometimes of loss.
I am currently living and growing food in Boston Village, Belize, hoping to achieve a self-reliant life one day! Check out my little farm here.
